Family Breakout Sessions

Parents and family members are invited to participate in a variety of breakout sessions designed to introduce you to resources your students will encounter on campus. Offices represented include the Athletics Department, Center for Counseling and Student Wellness, Career and Connections Institute, and the Gordon Intercultural Center.

Students, you will spend time learning about these campus areas in greater detail during the rest of Welcome Week, so feel free to use time this morning to get some rest, continue unpacking your room, or explore campus!

First-Generation Family Session

First-Generation means your student is the first person in your family to attend college. This session describes the unique transition experience for first-generation students and how their sending families can partner with us to support them and help them succeed.

How to Know What Your Student is Going Through

Explaining the various ups and downs students often experience when transitioning to college. The session will be led by Reid Swetland, Associate Dean for Mental Health Outreach, one of Gordon’s certified mental health counselors.
